John Dumelo appeals to GRIDCo to suspend planned demolition exercise along the Tema-Achimota-Mallam High Voltage Transmission Lines

2020 NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency, Mr. John Dumelo has today appealed to the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to suspend their planned demolishing of illegal occupants and encroachers along the Tema-Achimota-Mallam High Voltage Transmision Lines.

According to Mr. John Dumelo, due to the Covid-19, life has become very hard for people especially for most of these illegal occupants located at Mempasem, American House and Dzorwulu. He therefore pleaded with GRIDCo to suspend the planned demolition in these areas and give them at least 3 months notice to relocate.

Last Wednesday, 3rd March, 2021, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), announced that it will embark on a demolition exercise around its Right-of-Way (RoW) locations along the Tema-Achimota-Mallam High Voltage Transmission Lines.

The exercise, scheduled for this month, will rid the affected areas of illegal occupants and encroachers, whose activities prevent access to the transmission towers.

In a statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Company said the specific areas included Dzorwulu, Ashiaman Middle East, and areas in East Legon – American House; Adzei Kodzo and Menpeasem.

It said the demolition exercise, when completed, would enable GRIDCo engineers and contractors unimpeded access to the transmission towers for construction works to be carried out to ensure adequate and quality power transmission to the Greater Accra region and adjoining areas.

The statement said it was an offence under the Transmission Line Protection Regulations, 1967 (LI 542) as amended by Regulation No. LI 1737 of 2004, for persons or institutions, to conduct any form of activity concerning the lands around the location of power transmission lines and towers in Ghana.

It said such operations included drilling, excavation works, lorry parks, shops, garages, bars, real estate.

It said such enterprises should not be undertaken in the areas extending for a distance of 15 meters on each side from the centre of the transmission towers for 161kV lines and 20 meters for 330kV lines, were prohibited.

The statement said such activities posed a danger to human life and property as transmission line faults can result in casualties and damage to properties.

It said over the past years, GRIDCo had issues with encroachers along its transmission towers and lands across the country, especially in Greater Accra, adding, “these persons carry out all forms of activities at the risk of their lives.”

The statement stated that GRIDCo would continue to work with the relevant state institutions to remove properties and structures and to curb all forms of human activities, within the Right-of-Ways, to safeguard public safety and ensure the reliability of power transmission.

Enforcing Vaccine On Citizens, Unconstitutional ‐ Sammy Gyamfi

Published

on

The national communications officer of the biggest opposition party, the NDC, Sammuel Gyamfi has given a penny of his thought concerning the compulsory vaccination going on in the country. The government’s policy of getting every Ghanaian at the age of eighteen years and above vaccinated does not sit well with the young lawyer.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, research made has proven that the vaccinated is highly susceptible to contracting the virus than the unvaccinated ones. He goes on to argue that there are countries who record number of COVID cases twice as Ghana such as south Africa but their president, Cyril Ramaphosa, posits that there is not going to be a force vaccination in the country.

“Some countries such as South Africa and Brazil are rejecting the Vaccine, vehemently though they are recording cases in huge numbers”, says Sammy Gyamfi.

According to the NDC firebrand, no law in Ghana mandates the FDA to do emergency use authorization, the medicine must be tested and approved before being administered. So it illegal to do emergency use authorization and this proceeds to border the natural rights of Ghanaian citizens enshrined in the 1992 constitution if citizens receive the dose forcefully.

Sammy Gyamfi registered his displeasure when granting an interview at Media General’s 3fm.
