Ghanaian Musician OG Abrantie Takes His Hiplife Journey to the Next Level

Published

on

Ghanaian musician OG Abrantie is gradually making his presence felt in the local music scene with a style that combines Hiplife, rap and personal storytelling. Born Reynold Quansah and raised in Atico-Bubiashie, Accra, the rapper has chosen to build his music around real life experiences, Ghanaian culture, personal growth and the challenges that come with finding one’s place in the world. OG Abrantie refers to himself as a “Hip Lifer”, a description that reflects his strong connection to Hiplife and his desire to contribute to the sound in his own way. His musical influences include Omar Sterling, Kojo Cue, M.anifest, Ayisi and Obibini, although he points to Omar Sterling and Kojo Cue as the artistes who have influenced him most. Their approach to storytelling and lyricism helped shape his understanding of what music could represent.

OG Abrantie’s interest in music dates back to his school days. He made his first attempt at recording music around 2011/2012 while in senior high school, but it was not until 2022 that he began pursuing music more seriously. A major turning point came after he connected with Twinny Pee and producer Brakaydidit through church. He subsequently spent considerable time at Hoodboys Studios, now BMS Records in Atico-Bubiashie, learning from Brakaydidit and developing his craft. During that period, he worked on songs including “B.I.G (Bleed In Grind)” featuring Brakaydidit and Joy Dek, as well as “AMA” featuring Kweku Star. As his experience in the studio grew, so did his understanding of the kind of artiste he wanted to become. Rather than following whatever sound was popular, OG Abrantie began looking more closely at his own experiences and the stories he wanted to tell. That process eventually shaped his current direction.

His songs “From From,” “Journey” and “Lone Ranger” highlight different aspects of his personality and journey. While “From From” speaks to his roots, “Journey” focuses on growth and determination, and “Lone Ranger” represents independence and staying committed to his own path. These themes also run through his debut EP, Is It Elementary?, which was released on May 22, 2026.

What is elementary?

The project draws from his upbringing, personal experiences and growth, touching on issues of identity, resilience, purpose and self belief. For OG Abrantie, the experiences people go through can become important lessons and, in some cases, a source of strength. He considers “Journey” the song that best represents him as an artiste because of how closely it reflects his personal story. The song touches on resilience, self discovery, forgiveness and the process of learning how to navigate life.

Beyond the music itself, OG Abrantie wants his work to connect with people who can identify with the stories he tells. His aim is to encourage listeners to embrace their backgrounds, learn from their experiences and continue pursuing their goals despite the challenges they may face. The young artiste has already performed at events including the Black Star Experience, High School Party in the Park and The Beast Party in the Park. His music has also recorded streams across Audiomack, Spotify, Apple Music and Boomplay. For him, however, one of the more important moments in his career has been getting the opportunity to perform his songs for industry players and finding people who believe in his vision.

OG Abrantie is now looking to build on that progress by reaching bigger audiences, working with more industry figures and taking his music beyond Ghana. He also plans to explore the combination of Highlife and Hip Hop as he continues to champion the Hiplife sound. With Is It Elementary? serving as an introduction to his evolving artistry, OG Abrantie is focused on developing a career that remains connected to Ghanaian culture while allowing his personal stories to reach audiences beyond the country.
