2023 Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors announced by Avance Media

Africa’s foremost PR and ratings firm, Avance Media, has announced the inaugural Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors list for 2023.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to highlight the exceptional contributions of women who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, innovation, and impact within their respective industries.

The selection process for the Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors was rigorous, considering a comprehensive range of criteria such as experience, education, board tenure, industry expertise, leadership capabilities, notable impact, awards and recognition, as well as public presence.

The research revealed that women hold 28% of board positions in Ghana, compared to the global average of 20% as indicated by The Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance. The report further showed that within the 52 Ghanaian companies listed, only 10 have women serving as their board chairs. Notably, 42% of the women on the list hold positions on bank boards.

A highlight of the event was the announcement of the maiden Ghana Board Diversity Awards. Media General was recognized as the Best Gender-Inclusive Board (private), while Exim Bank Ghana and the Ghana Revenue Authority clinched the title of Best Gender-Inclusive Board (public). These awards underscore the efforts of Ghanaian companies in championing gender diversity within their leadership structures.

The unveiling, which took place at the SB Incubator in Accraon August 14th, 2023 in Accra also featured an engaging panel discussion hosted by Prince Akpah on the pivotal role of women in board leadership. Esteemed panellists included Board Chair of Old Mutual Ghana, Hellen Amarquaye; President / Council Chair of the Institute of Directors-Ghan, Rev. (Mrs.) Angela Carmen Appiah (FIoD); and CEO of Acreaty Ghana, Elsie Appau-Klu. Their insights illuminated the significance of women’s contributions to effective corporate governance.

On the sidelines of the event, Prince Akpah, Founder of Avance Media, remarked, “The Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors list is a testament to the remarkable achievements of women leaders who continue to pave the way for others. Their dedication, expertise, and impact are instrumental in shaping the future of corporate leadership in Ghana. We believe that celebrating their accomplishments will inspire more gender-inclusive boardrooms and contribute to a diverse and prosperous business landscape.”

The initiative is a creation of PR and rating firm, Avance Media with partnerships from Acreaty Ghana, Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh), Business and Financial Times (BFT),, and Words Magazine.

Asaase launches Central Regional Business Excellence Awards

The Central Regional Business Excellence Awards have been set up to help businesses in the region push the boundaries of growth and excellence.

The management of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd has launched the Central Regional Business Excellence Awards (CRBEA) at a dinner in Cape Coast to reward businesses flourishing in various fields in the region.

The colourful event was attended by businessmen and women, political and traditional leaders and many others.

The launch of the Central Regional Business Excellence Awards fulfils a pledge made by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, the chairman of the board of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, during the official opening of Asaase 100.3 Cape Coast, to work with businesses in the Central Region to change the narrative about the region.

The maiden edition of the Central Regional Business Excellence Awards is expected to take place in 2023 and will look to reward deserving businesses and leaders in the Central Region who are pushing the boundaries of growth and excellence.

“Each year, beginning from 2023, the board of the CRBEA will oversee the award of business excellence to companies and entities in 20 different categories.

This includes manufacturing/retail, bank/insurance, health care, herbal care services, tourism, educational services, restaurant/hotel, petrochemical services, 1D1F, pharmaceuticals, and the overall Business Personality of the Year,” said James Kojo Kutin, the station manager of Asaase 100.3 Cape Coast.

The chairman of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, Gabby Otchere-Darko, delivered an address in which he reiterated the promise he made at the launch of Asaase 100.3 Cape Coast in June this year: that the Asaase brand is in the Central Region to help businesses grow.

“We are here to help promote the culture and the great city of Cape Coast. We actually want to ensure we thrive in Cape Coast and other parts of the country,” he said.

The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan, commended the management of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd for ensuring quality content delivery and helping the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council to transform the region.

Assan pledged the support of her team to the media company in developing the region.

“This is the time to support Asaase Radio to get it done and we are so grateful to them for putting this together. You can count on the support of the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council.

“We are going to partner with you. This, I see it as a beautiful marriage beginning today (10 November) and we are going to cement it,” Assan said.
