Miss Yankson Wins Second GOIL-CIMG Entrepreneurial & Innovation Awards

The second edition of the Ho Technical University GOIL – CIMG Entrepreneurial Marketing And Innovation Awards came off on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, with Miss Evelyn Benyiwaa Yankson, emerging Winner.

The event held at the G.M Afeti Auditorium, saw Miss Yankson, an immediate past student of Hospitality and Tourism Management beat off competition from six other student entrepreneurs in a business pitching competition assessed by a 5-member panel with expertise in business management, marketing and entrepreneurship.

For her prize, she received an amount of GHc 7,000.00 to scale up her pancake premix business with the the brand name, ‘WAYO’.

Miss Emmanuella Mawuyram Anyomi, placed second with her ‘Brew-Lovers’ business pitch and took home an amount of GHc6,000.00.

Other participants include, Jonathan Kalai of Joekal Engineering Consult, Susan Eyram Ziorklui of Kings Cuisine, Kendell Elizabeth Mantey of Lednek Beverages, Sandra Cudjoe of Jasac Enterprise, as well as Felix Xoakpe Aditse, Peter Adzor and Prince Amezugbe Kumah, all of Digital Security Services.

The award, jointly instituted by indigenous Oil Marketing Company, GOIL and Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) in March 2019, is aimed at empowering the youth in local entrepreneurial developments and initiatives among tertiary institutions in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, the Head of Corporate Affairs Director, at GOIL, Mr. Marcus Deo Dake, expressed his excitement about the enthusiasm and level of seriousness Ho Technical University attaches to the award scheme.

He added that HTU is the only technical university which has implemented and utilise the funds allocated for the scheme.

He also commended the University management for sustaining the initiative and assured them of the continous support of the sponsors.

Dr. Ametefee Normanyo, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, who doubles as the awards planning committee chairman, said the competition was an avenue to challenge students to come up with unique creativity to address identified challenges in the society. He added that the project also affords students the opportunity to develop all requisite business skills needed to succeed in a highly competitive business environment.

Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, the Vice-Chancellor, in a remark urged students and participants to strive for excellence in their fields of endeavours and success will inevitably follow them. He expressed his utmost gratitude to the sponsors of the award for their commitment to supporting the HTU project to realize its desired objective.

Wensah Foundation International Supports Vulnerable New Mother at Sunyani Teaching Hospital

In a heartwarming display of compassion and community support, Wensah Foundation International, a Sunyani-based NGO, has come to the aid of a mentally challenged new mother, Lamisi Tindani, who was detained at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital due to her inability to pay medical bills amounting to after undergoing a successful cesarean section (CS) to deliver a baby boy.

Upon learning of Lamisi’s situation, the Wensah Foundation International team promptly visited the hospital to assess the situation and provide assistance. The very next day, the NGO settled all of Lamisi’s outstanding medical bills, ensuring she could focus on her recovery and caring for her newborn without the burden of financial stress.

In addition to covering the medical expenses, Wensah Foundation International demonstrated its commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals by donating essential items to Lamisi for the well-being of both her and her baby. The mother of the patient received these items with gratitude, expressing heartfelt thanks to the NGO for their kindness and generosity.

The hospital’s is administrator, Mr. Omar, extended his appreciation to Wensah Foundation International for their philanthropic efforts. He encouraged the NGO to continue supporting vulnerable women in society, acknowledging their crucial role in promoting the welfare of those in need.

This act of kindness is consistent with Wensah Foundation International’s mission, which focuses on championing child rights protection and women empowerment. The NGO’s dedication to this cause was recognized in 2021 when it was awarded the Best NGO in Child Protection and Women Empowerment by the Cenba Africa Excellence Awards in Kumasi. Through their actions, Wensah Foundation International continues to make a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.
