The call for an airport in Cape Coast has been reignited by Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhen of Breman Traditional Area.

Speaking at the Central Regional Investment Forum, the Chief emphasized that the airport would significantly boost investment, trade, and business opportunities in the region and Ghana as a whole.

Cape Coast, a hub for tourism, education, and trade, is strategically located between Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi, making it an ideal spot for an airport. The proposed airport is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and increase economic activity in the region.

According to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, funding for the Cape Coast Airport has already been secured under a $2 billion facility from South Korean investors. He made this known during the NPP Manifesto launch on August 18, ahead of 2024 General Elections.

The idea of an airport in Cape Coast is not new, but previous criticisms had put it on the backburner. Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII believes it’s time to revisit the proposal and urged the government to reconsider.

The Chief’s call is backed by the region’s rich cultural heritage, significant tourism potential, and growing economic activity.

The construction of the Cape Coast Airport is expected to create jobs, stimulate local economies, and increase Ghana’s global connectivity. With the feasibility study already completed, the next step is for the government to greenlight the project.
