Portia Nana Akua Pinamang Calls for Urgent Action as Nigeria’s Insecurity Deepens

Published

on

Ghanaian writer and youth advocate Portia Nana Akua Pinamang has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the worsening insecurity crisis in Nigeria, describing it as a humanitarian emergency that demands immediate attention from Africa and the international community. Recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno states, where dozens of children and teachers were abducted, have reinforced fears that innocent civilians are increasingly becoming targets of organised criminal groups.

According to reports, thousands of Nigerians have been kidnapped in recent years, with many communities living under constant fear of attacks. Schoolchildren, farmers, worshippers and travelers continue to face grave risks, while families are often forced to pay huge ransoms for the release of their loved ones. Portia Nana Akua Pinamang believes these incidents are no longer isolated crimes but evidence of a growing security crisis that threatens the stability of Africa’s most populous nation.

She warns that the rest of Africa cannot afford to remain silent. Drawing comparisons to the spread of global crises such as COVID-19, She argues that insecurity does not respect national borders. If instability continues to worsen in Nigeria, neighboring countries could eventually face similar threats as criminal networks expand their operations across the region.

Portia Nana Akua Pinamang also questions whether enough is being done by African leaders and international organizations to address the crisis. She calls for stronger cooperation, intelligence-sharing and practical support to help rescue victims, dismantle criminal networks and protect vulnerable communities. In her view, every abducted child and every lost life should matter equally, regardless of where it occurs.

As a Ghanaian and an African, Portia Nana Akua Pinamang says she watches Nigeria’s suffering with both grief and urgency. She urges governments, regional bodies and the global community to act before the situation deteriorates further. For her, the message is simple: African lives matter, and the time to stand with Nigeria is now.
