Ghana Crowned Champions of CAF African Schools Football Championship (Girls U15)

Ghana’s Girls U15 team has emerged victorious in the CAF African Schools Football Championship, clinching the title on home soil at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.
The young talents triumphed with a 2-0 win over Uganda in the finals, delivering a proud moment for the nation and showcasing the future of women’s football in Ghana.
Goals from Daniella Abass and Belinda Kpentey sealed the well-deserved victory for the Ghanaian side, who dominated the game with confidence, skill, and tactical discipline.
The match, witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd, highlighted the strength of Ghana’s grassroots football and the bright prospects of the next generation.
The victory earned the team not only the championship trophy but also a grand prize of $300,000, a significant boost to youth football development in the country.

Individual brilliance was also recognized during the tournament. Jennifer Awuku was named Player of the Tournament, impressing fans and scouts alike with her outstanding performances throughout the competition.
Ghana’s goalkeeper, Precious Akenguwie, earned the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award for her commanding presence and crucial saves, which played a vital role in Ghana’s unbeaten run.

This year’s edition of the tournament was hosted in Ghana, with the finals taking place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium—marking a successful outing both on and off the pitch for the host nation.
Ghana’s triumph not only underscores the nation’s dominance at the youth level but also reflects the increasing investment in and support for women’s football development. The victory will serve as a major inspiration for young girls across the country to pursue the sport with passion and determination.

EU to Sponsor Major CAF Tournaments in Historic Deal.

In a landmark development for African football, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the European Union have officially entered into a historic partnership agreement that will see the EU sponsoring several of CAF’s flagship tournaments.

The agreement includes support for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 and 2027, the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024, and the CAF African Schools Football Championship. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the promotion and development of football across Africa.
The partnership was formally signed today in Cairo, Egypt by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and European Commissioner for International Partnerships Mr Jozef Síkela.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Patrice Motsepe expressed his enthusiasm about the alliance:

“Our partnership reflects the mutual commitment of CAF and the European Union to the development and growth of African football, schools and youth football, as well as the expansion of cultural, trade, and investment relationships between our two continents. I would like to express my gratitude to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Jozef Síkela, and the EU for this exciting partnership.”
The collaboration is expected to provide a major boost to football infrastructure, talent development, and grassroots programs across Africa, while strengthening the ties between Africa and Europe through sport, culture, and shared values.
