During his ‘History In The Making’ gigs in New York, rapper Sarkodie claims to have sold out the Apollo Theatre in front of several African acts.

Ghanaians, he claims, don’t appreciate and cherish own memories sufficiently, so they spend their time focused on the accomplishments of others — a gesture he sees as threatening to the music industry’s progress.

In an interview with Daybreak Hitz, the rapper, who recently released his ‘No Pressure’ album, said he sold out the Apollo Theatre in 2015 before Nigeria’s Burna Boy, but Ghanaians don’t remember such things.

“We must seize and hang on to our opportunity. We do well, yet we prefer to compare ourselves to other countries. I recall selling out the Apollo Theatre, but according to BET, Burna Boy was the first Afrobeat musician to do so… Sarkodie told Andy Dosty, “So I accomplished it before him.”

“When Beyonce’s album was out, many websites claimed Burna Boy, Wizkid, and others… So, have a look at my tweet… I mentioned Shatta Wale and other amazing musicians… My main [priority] is my Ghanaian people… I appreciate my Nigerian artists, but my top [priority] is my Nigerian people… That way, you can readily capture people’s attention,” he explained.

Ghanaians, according to Sarkodie, should ponder on highlighting their major moments in the music field so that the rest of the world can catch up with them.

Sarkodie’s headline event, billed “History in the Making,” at New York’s Apollo Theater on August 8, 2015, was sold out.

To reward his followers for showing up in such large numbers, he created an official video called Sark Nation, in which he rapped over footage from the show.
