Sadio Mane Wins African Footballer Of The Year

The Senegal captain Sadio Mane has been announced as the 2022 winner at the Confederation of African Football’s awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday.

Sadio Mane has become the 10th player to win the African Footballer of the Year award more than once.

Mane topped the vote ahead of former Liverpool teammate Mo Salah top the English Premier League Golden boot chart with 23 goals and most assists of 13 alongside Chelsea’s Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Mane led Senegal to glory at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022 against the Egyptian and knocked them out in the World Cup qualification play-off.

Mane is the sixth player to have been named African Footballer of the Year on exactly two occasions. The others are Salah, Didier Drogba, Roger Milla, Nwankwo Kanu and El Hadji Diouf.

George Weah and Abedi Pele are both three-time winners, while Samuel Eto’o and Yaya Toure have won the award four times each.

Saeed Kovacic,the youngest CAF accredited journalist, is set to officially launch the Saeed Kovacic Talent Watch, a grassroots U-16 football tournament with a bold and inspiring mission to identify, nurture, and elevate young football talent from local communities across the nation.

Founded in 2022, the Kovacic Talent Watch Tournament aims to create a structured and competitive platform where boys under the age of 16 can showcase their skills, gain exposure, and take decisive steps toward building professional careers in football. The tournament stands as a beacon of hope for aspiring players who dream of playing at the highest levels, both nationally and internationally.
The vision behind the initiative is clear and powerful to become the leading grassroots football platform in Ghana. By focusing on the grassroots level, the tournament seeks to empower young boys with the opportunity to unlock their full potential and shape long-lasting careers in football.
