Social Advocate Portia Nana Akua Pinamang Exposes Red 225 Drug Crisis Among Ghanaian Youth

Published

on

Ghanaian social advocate and media personality, Portia Nana Akua Pinamang, is raising urgent concern over the rising abuse of Red 225, a highly addictive opioid that is rapidly destroying the lives of Ghanaian youth. In a recent episode of her show Unfiltered Thoughts, she described the situation as a national emergency, warning that the country is “burning from within.”

Known on the streets as “Wonim Red,” the drug has been linked to numerous cases of public collapses, mental breakdowns, and death among young people. Current data shows that 8 percent of Ghanaian youth are engaged with hard drugs, including opioids like Red 225, while 17 percent use marijuana and 13 percent consume alcohol.

Portia openly blamed institutions like the Food and Drugs Authority for failing to regulate the entry and distribution of the drug. She criticized Customs for allowing dangerous substances through the ports and National Security for focusing more on monitoring citizens than tackling drug networks. She also held political leaders from both major parties responsible for neglecting youth welfare in favor of power struggles and public appearances.

She emphasized that addiction is a symptom of deeper issues such as unemployment, a broken education system, poverty, and lack of proper parenting.

Portia Nana Akua Pinamang called for immediate action including the arrest of key suppliers, the establishment of national rehabilitation centers, and systemic reforms to address the root causes of youth drug addiction.

“If Ghana is still standing tomorrow, I’ll be here telling the truth, loudly,” she said.
