COVID-19: President Akufo-Addo Extends Ban On Social Gatherings To May 31

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has extended the ban on social gatherings to may 31. 

The president made this known in his ninth address to the nation last night, 10th May, 2020. In his address themed “Measures taking against spread of Coronavirus”, the President stated specifically that, the ban on social gatherings which should had ended last night has been extended to the end of the month, thus May 31, 2020. 

This restriction on social gatherings include; Churches, mosques, festivals, funerals, political rallies, Sporting Events, conferences & workshops, restaurants, night clubs, recreational centers, Religious activities. All schools both private and government remain closed till further notice.

On boarder closure, the president made reference to it’s extension by a month issued during his May Day address to the nation as part of the measures taking against spread of the novel Coronavirus. 

According to the president, aggressive measures have been taken in tracing, testing and treating patients tested positive for the virus. 

The president disclosed that, the 523 new cases recorded from Wednesday to Thursday were workers of a fish processing factory in Tema of which the victims were affected by one person.

Ghana’s Case Count as at today 11th May, 2020 stands at 4,700 with 494 recoveries and 22 deaths. 

The president in his speech indicated that, the 4,700 persons tested positive for the virus have been detected, isolated and on treatment. 

He urged all citizens to adhere to all the preventive measures to stay safe by mostly wearing nose masks in public places.

Assin North independent candidate hopeful Elkanah Fredrick Ayittey has shared a strong message emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in national development and leadership.
