Youth In Cape Coast Demand An International Airport To Help Boost Tourism In Central Region

There are over 500,000 tourists visiting Cape Coast and the Central Region at large annually(Cape Coast Castle, Elmina castle, Fort Amsterdam, Kakum National Park, Assin Manso slave river and burial site, Hans Cottage and other hidden and poorly maintained sites). This makes Cape Coast and the Central Region the tourism hub of the nation(It can be the hub in West Africa and one of the hubs in Africa overall).

In addition, the history of Ghana cannot be told without Cape Coast and the Central Region. However, Cape Coast and Central Region at large remains one of the poorest places or regions in Ghana even with the abundance of natural and man made resources.

As youths of Cape Coast we plead with the government on behalf of the entire region to consider at least one of these;
1) Construct an airport (at least an airstrip)
2) Dualize the road from Accra to Cape Coast/Elmina.

An airport will accelerate the tourism potentials of Cape Coast and the region at large. It will also generate a lot of revenue to the aviation industry looking at the number of tourists visiting Cape Coast and the region. An airport will open Cape Coast and the region to direct investment.

The Accra – Cape Coast highway is the most accident prone highway in the country. A highway that leads to the tourism hub of the nation shouldn’t be such dangerous to drive on, and as youths of Cape Coast and the region we believe the dualization of this major highway will go a long way to aid in the reduction of motor accidents. It will also aid in the stressful traffic situation at the kasoa – Budumbram stretch.

We plead with the government, Omanhen of Cape Coast and the respected Central Region house of Chief’s and indigenes of Cape Coast and Central Region at large to help in alleviating the poverty level from a city and region that is the foundation of Ghana.
