African Dance Rhythms has introduced KALAJAH, a major traditional dance festival and cultural production, in a grand event held at Alliance Française, Accra.

The event brought together a distinguished audience, including ambassadors, traditional leaders, chiefs and government officials, as well as cultural enthusiasts and lovers of Ghanaian music and dance. The gathering provided a significant platform for African Dance Rhythms to showcase the richness and diversity of Ghana’s traditional performing arts.

KALAJAH seeks to celebrate Ghanaian cultural heritage through traditional music and dance while creating opportunities for artists, particularly young talents, to develop and express their creativity.

Speaking about the vision behind the initiative, the Leader of the African Dance Rhythms Ensemble, Fofoo Attiso explained that KALAJAH is not intended to remain within Ghana. The production is expected to be taken on tour across Europe, creating opportunities to introduce Ghana’s cultural heritage to international audiences and strengthen cultural exchange between Ghana and other countries.

Beyond the performances, the initiative is also focused on the future of young artists. According to the ensemble’s leader, one of the key ambitions of KALAJAH is to create a platform where young artists can express their talents, build their confidence and develop their artistic abilities.

The vision also extends to cultural preservation, ensuring that the knowledge, traditions and artistic expressions passed down through generations continue to live on.

The successful introduction of KALAJAH at Alliance Française marks an important step in African Dance Rhythms’ broader ambition to position Ghanaian traditional dance and music on the international cultural stage.
