#GhanaDecides2024: EC should open up about any challenges they are facing with releasing results – Asiedu Nketiah

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as ‘General Mosquito,’ has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to prioritize clarity and transparency, particularly in the declaration of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election results.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Asiedu Nketiah reiterated the NDC’s victory while expressing dissatisfaction with the EC’s prolonged silence.

He stated: “The Electoral Commission must live up to its mandate by ensuring clarity and transparency in its processes. If they are encountering challenges, they owe it to Ghanaians to come forward and explain the reasons for this delay. This level of silence is unacceptable and has the potential to spark widespread unrest.”

His remarks follow the concession of defeat earlier in the day by the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who congratulated NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the presidential race.

Despite this development, the EC has yet to officially announce any results, several hours after polls closed and collation commenced. This delay has led to mounting tensions across the country, with reports of sporadic violence in some areas.

Asiedu Nketiah further called on the National Peace Council and other relevant stakeholders to engage the EC to ensure that the results are declared promptly and accurately to preserve the peace and integrity of the electoral process.

He also emphasized the NDC’s commitment to safeguarding the democratic principles of the nation.

Blessed Care International Champions Coastal Clean-Up at Ghanaian Landing Beach

Published

on

In a remarkable act of environmental responsibility and community collaboration, Blessed Care International Foundation has spearheaded a transformative beach clean-up at one of Ghana’s critical landing beaches. The initiative brought together local fisherfolk, volunteers, and community leaders in a unified effort to combat marine pollution and promote sustainable fishing practices.

The shoreline, previously overwhelmed by plastic waste and marine debris, was restored through hours of dedicated work. The exercise aimed not only at immediate sanitation but also at long-term environmental education and advocacy. By revitalizing the beach, the Foundation has taken a firm step toward securing the health of marine ecosystems and ensuring the safety and livelihoods of the coastal fishing communities who rely on them.

“We believe a clean beach is key to a sustainable fishing industry and a healthy community,” said Melvin Godfrey Tackey, Director of Blessed Care International Foundation. “We are grateful to all our partners, sponsors, and especially the fisherfolk who actively participated in this initiative.”

This impactful activity is part of the Foundation’s broader mission to promote environmental stewardship, with a particular focus on the needs of vulnerable coastal communities. The success of this clean-up has already sparked increased interest and dialogue around coastal conservation.

Looking ahead, the Foundation has announced plans to carry out similar clean-up exercises every four months. They are extending a call to action to corporate stakeholders, fishing companies, and environmental groups to support and participate in this growing movement.
