Ghana Decriminalizes Attempted Suicide
Ghana’s Parliament has approved amendments to the Criminal Offenses Act of 1960, which previously made attempted suicide a criminal offence.
A Community Mental Health Specialist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Francis Yeboah in an interview with Akwesi Ofori on Ghana Nie a segment on Fontomfrom morning show on Kantanka TV has shared his view on why laws guiding suicides attempts are no more.
In his delivery, he made mention that , his department describes suicide attempts as a Mental Illness that most people do not have knowledge about it.
According to him , they’re never against the fact that , a person who attempts suicide will be severely dealt with by the law but then , we all should admit and consider suicide attempts as a mental illness and a major cause suicide.
He added that it’s the only right way we as a country can help victims of Suicide.
