CEBA21: Central Regional Minister, Hon Justina Marigold Assan, embraces Central Entertainment and Business Awards

Central Regional Minister, Hon. Mrs Justina Marigold Assan welcomes board members of Central Entertainment & Business Awards.

The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, earlier this week met with the executives of the Central Entertainment and Business Awards to discuss the direction of the award scheme in relation to the regions’ development.

It can be recalled that, the Minister, on several occasions and platforms, has urged her people to help her develop the region and foster its progress. Thus, as part of a grand scheme to make the region a viable alternative to businesses and tourists, the Minister gladly embraced the idea of honoring people who have made and are making such efforts to cement that course of action.

It is to that effect, that she accented to the idea that, the regalia of the region should be displayed beyond regional boundaries; the region should be noted for not only tourism but a hub of Ghanaian arts, music, hospitality and culture as well as local businesses.

In the meeting, the executives and the Minister both came to a general opinion that, the progress of the region does not rest on one person’s shoulder neither does it do on a “stand-alone” plan. It has to be woven with several industry members such as the entertainment players and small local businesses.

The executives further stressed that, there should be a paradigm shift in regional economic development in Ghana. Citing places like Las Vegas, Dubai, Amsterdam, etc, that have thrived on entertainment, tourism and events such as CEBA, the Minister also assured them of her and her office’s unwavering support towards the event.

She commended them to lead this positive course to help uplift the global image of the region and hopes this event will mark a milestone in the full development of the region.

Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has publicly commended a young Ghanaian innovator who is transforming the fight against plastic pollution by producing biodegradable plastics from sugarcane fibre. Her groundbreaking work has caught national attention, including that of the President of the Republic, who recently expressed excitement about the innovation, especially in the context of discussions on a potential ban on single-use plastics.

The President, vocal about Ghana’s need to transition away from plastic dependency, highlighted how innovations like this align with broader goals of sustainability and environmental protection. He noted that such solutions not only support the agenda to restrict harmful plastics but also help reduce reliance on wood, thereby preserving Ghana’s forests and promoting ecological balance.

At Accra Met, the response has been particularly enthusiastic. The University, known for its strong advocacy in sustainable environment, leadership, and governance, sees the development as a clear embodiment of its core mission. The President of the University, Professor Madam Goski Alabi, praised the innovator’s ingenuity, remarking that her work exemplifies the values Accra Met instills in its community.

“This is exactly the kind of innovation that defines our future,” said Prof. Goski. “As an institution deeply rooted in sustainable leadership, we are thrilled to see young Ghanaians addressing environmental challenges through creativity and science. She is not only helping the environment but also inspiring a new wave of sustainable entrepreneurs.”

Accra Met plans to reach out to the innovator for potential collaboration and to explore ways to integrate her model into educational and community outreach programs.
