Asante Kotoko Wins 25th Ghana Premier League Title

The porcupine warriors Asante Kotoko has won their 25th Ghana Premier League title after a 1-1 draw with AshantiGold in Obuasi on Thursday.

The 2021/22 league leaders just needed a point to emerge as a league winner with remaining 3 matches at hand left.

In the game, Derby rival Ashanti Gold netted early goal but Defender Maxwell Agyemang’s equalized to earned a point to the title for the first time since 2014.

Asante Kotoko has 60 points out from 17 wins and nine draws in 31 matches so far this season.

Kotoko have now gained the right to compete in next season’s CAF Champions League qualifiers with the hope of making the group stages for the first time since 2006.

Manchester United part ways with Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United has officially ended their partnership with manager Erik ten Hag after a difficult period of poor results and rising tension within the club.

Ten Hag, who became manager in 2022, had early success by winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final. However, this past season brought serious problems, with United finishing eighth in the Premier League and leaving the Champions League early.

These struggles led the club’s new owners, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS to make this decision.

Official club Statement :

The club released an official statement, expressing appreciation for Ten Hag’s contributions:

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been named as interim manager.

Interim head coach van Nistelrooy is considered a United legend, having scored 150 goals in 219 appearances and completed the clean sweep of domestic trophies.

Since retiring as a player in 2013, he has had some coaching experience and most notably won the KNVB Cup during a stint as PSV Eindhoven boss.
