Danny Ings, an England striker, has joined Aston Villa on a three-year agreement from Southampton for £25 million.

The 29-year-old, who scored 14 goals for both club and country last season, has joined Villa Park alongside summer signings Leon Bailey, Emi Buenda, and Ashley Young.

“Danny is a great Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played,” head coach Dean Smith said of the signing.

“He is also a consummate professional with a strong personality who will serve as a leader in our squad and a role model for our quickly rising young Academy players who are currently in and around the first team.”

Meanwhile, Villa captain Jack Grealish might be sold to Premier League winners Manchester City for a British record £100 million, with the youngster expected to undergo a medical on Thursday.

City have been connected with the 25-year-old throughout summer and are said to have put an offer on his head last Friday.

The deal would be the most expensive transfer in English football history, surpassing Paul Pogba’s £93.25 million return to Manchester United from Juventus in 2016.

Villa are set to confirm their interest in Norwich City offensive midfielder Todd Cantwell if a deal is reached.

Although no official contact has been made, Norwich is aware of Villa’s interest.
