#GhanaDecides2024: NDC and NPP supporters clash in Chiani-Paga

Published

on

Tensions flared at the English and Arabic polling station in the Chiana-Paga constituency, located in the Kasena/Nankana district of the Upper East Region.

The confrontation involved members of the two leading political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to reports, the altercation began after the parliamentary candidates of both parties failed to comply with a directive issued by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The EC had instructed candidates to cast their votes promptly and leave the polling station to maintain order and fairness. However, their prolonged presence at the station reportedly created a tense atmosphere which resulted in the clash between their supporters.

Security personnel at the polling station intervened to restore order, ensuring that the voting process could continue without further disruptions. Authorities are urging calm and advising party members to adhere to electoral guidelines to maintain peace in the region.

As voting progresses, the Electoral Commission continues to reiterate its commitment to a free, fair, and peaceful election, appealing to all citizens to prioritize national unity above party interests.

The 2024 general elections are ongoing across 276 constituencies in the country, with 18.8 million people expected to vote.
