From Bawku to the Big Stage, Mic Yaaro Is Chasing His Music Dream

Published

on

Abdul Majid, popularly known as Mic Yaaro, is an emerging rapper from Bawku in Ghana’s Upper East Region, steadily carving a niche for himself with music inspired by personal experiences and the realities of everyday life.

His interest in music dates back to his Junior High School days between 2009 and 2011, but it was during his Senior High School years that he began taking his craft more seriously.

Music was already a major part of his upbringing. His parents regularly played different genres at home, while his uncle, grandmother and mother were dancers and music lovers. His father, in particular, exposed him to reggae, pop and R&B.

Rap, however, became his strongest musical expression.

Mic Yaaro describes his music as conceptual, realistic and experiential, with many of his lyrics drawn from situations he has personally encountered. His ability to turn everyday experiences into relatable verses has become an important part of his artistic identity.

His journey has come with its fair share of challenges, including difficulty accessing studio sessions, hard times and betrayal. Rather than allowing these setbacks to derail his ambitions, he says they have helped him better understand his craft, improve his time management and grow as an artiste.

A notable moment in his journey came when he got the opportunity to perform at the Abeka Street Carnival through Baba Sedick and his crew. He has also performed at Atinka Media with his crew and at the Legacy Achievement Awards ceremony.

Now, the rapper is preparing to release his latest song, “DELAY.”

The song focuses on the daily struggles of hustlers and young people trying to navigate life and make a living. True to his artistic direction, Mic Yaaro says the record is about staying grounded in reality and remaining committed to what puts food on the table.

His songwriting process is equally personal. Sometimes, a single line becomes the foundation for an entire song, while at other times he develops his verses first before creating the hook around the concept. His personal experiences remain a major source of inspiration.

With Samini among the artistes he looks up to, Mic Yaaro is also inspired by established names such as Dadie Opanka, Daddy Lumba, Obrafuo, Killbeatz and R2Bees.

But while drawing inspiration from those who came before him, he is determined to maintain his uniqueness.

Mic Yaaro wants to perform on bigger platforms, collaborate with more artistes, release more projects and gain wider recognition as his music reaches more listeners through streaming platforms.

He also believes upcoming musicians need to focus on three key things, understanding their craft, time management and consistency.

As he continues to hustle, create and push his music, Mic Yaaro is hoping that “DELAY” will introduce more listeners to his sound and the story behind the artiste.
