Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has once again raised the flag of Ghana high on the global stage as it participated in the 15th Annual African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) Conference held from October 8–10, 2025, at the prestigious Hotel Africana in Kampala, Uganda. The milestone conference brought together academics, policymakers, and thought leaders from across the world to deliberate on the future of education, partnerships, and innovation across Africa.

At the heart of this year’s conference was Prof. Goski Alabi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Metropolitan University and Chair of the ANIE Board. A trailblazer in education and a transformative leader whose influence extends beyond Ghana’s borders, Prof. Alabi’s presence and contribution reaffirmed her global stature as one of Africa’s foremost voices in higher education development.

Prof. Goski Alabi: A Visionary in Global Education

Prof. Goski Alabi has long been recognized as a driving force behind efforts to reimagine and internationalize African higher education. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in the belief that education should not only empower individuals but also transform societies. During the opening ceremony, she delivered powerful welcome remarks alongside ANIE’s Executive Director, Prof. Kefas Sima, and officials from the Uganda Management Institute — the host of this year’s event.

In her address, Prof. Alabi emphasized that Africa’s strength lies in its ability to innovate, collaborate, and lead global education agendas from within. She underscored the need for higher education institutions to invest in leadership, research capacity, and international partnerships that reflect the realities and aspirations of African societies. Her words inspired both seasoned academics and emerging scholars, urging them to see education as a tool for empowerment and sustainable development.

“Internationalization is not just about mobility or exchange,” she noted. “It is about building resilient systems and mindsets that allow Africa to participate meaningfully in shaping global knowledge.”

Celebrating 15 Years of ANIE’s Impact

This year’s ANIE Conference marked a significant milestone — 15 years of advancing the internationalization of African education. Since its inception, ANIE has served as a vital platform for connecting African universities with global partners, promoting dialogue on educational innovation, and building institutional capacities across the continent.

The 2025 edition, themed around “Geopolitical Shifts and the Future of Internationalisation in Africa”, explored crucial topics such as South–South–North partnerships, digital transformation, and academic resilience. The discussions resonated strongly with Prof. Alabi’s lifelong advocacy for creating globally competitive African universities capable of driving local and international development agendas.

Empowering the Next Generation

Accompanying Prof. Alabi were two PhD students from Accra Metropolitan University — Addo Opoku Bernard and Lawrence Ashie Alantee — who actively participated in academic sessions and professional workshops. Their involvement highlighted the university’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of scholars and leaders.

Accra Metropolitan University’s Global Outlook

Under Prof. Alabi’s visionary leadership, Accra Metropolitan University has positioned itself as a hub for academic excellence and global collaboration. The university’s participation in ANIE 2025 signifies its unwavering commitment to quality education, innovation, and international engagement.
