Raymond Smith of AfriMass Network Advocates Funding Support for AI Development in Ghana at AETF.AI Conference 2025 Media Launch

Published

on

Raymond Smith, Chief Executive Officer of AfriMass Network, has made a passionate appeal for increased funding and investment in artificial intelligence (AI) development across Ghana and the wider African continent. Contributing during the media launch of the Africa Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference 2025 organized by the Africa Education Trust Fund (AETF), Raymond Smith emphasized that Africa must not remain a consumer of AI innovations but rather become a creator and leader in the space.

The launch, held in Accra, introduced the upcoming AETF.AI Conference scheduled for November 5–6, 2025, under the theme “AI for Africa: Unlocking Opportunities for Education, Innovation, and Sustainable Development.” The conference aims to unite stakeholders from education, industry, and policy sectors to shape Africa’s AI future.

Raymond Smith highlighted that while Ghana is making steady progress in digital transformation, there remains a significant gap in research funding, technical infrastructure, and human capital development to support large-scale AI innovation. He noted that without deliberate investment, Africa risks being left behind in the fourth industrial revolution.

“Artificial Intelligence is not just the future—it is the present. For Ghana to compete globally, we must invest in our young innovators, research centers, and startups building AI-driven solutions tailored to Africa’s needs,” Smith said. “We have the brains, but we need the backing financial, institutional, and governmental to bring our ideas to life.”

He also called on government agencies, private sector leaders, and international development partners to collaborate in establishing AI innovation hubs, funding grants, and mentorship programs that will nurture local talent. He stressed that AI has the potential to transform key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and governance if properly supported.

The AETF.AI Conference 2025 is expected to attract high-profile participants, including ministers, policymakers, researchers, innovators, and investors from across the continent and beyond. The event will serve as a platform to explore policies, partnerships, and sustainable strategies for integrating AI into Africa’s socio-economic development.

Raymond Smith reaffirmed AfriMass Network’s commitment to supporting tech-driven initiatives that empower youth and foster innovation ecosystems across Africa.
“This is our moment as
Africans to define our
own AI destiny,” he said. “If we invest right, AI can become the catalyst for Africa’s next wave of growth and transformation.”

The Africa AI Conference 2025 promises to be a groundbreaking event positioning Ghana as a central hub for AI collaboration, innovation, and education on the continent.

Ghanaian luxury watchmaker Mr Patrick Amofah recognised at the 10th anniversary of the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards, held at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Mr Patrick Amofah, Founder and CEO of Warrior King Watches, receives the Innovative Excellence Award at HAPAwards 2026.
Mr Amofah dedicates the honour to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, acknowledging his support and guidance in the growth of the brand.
The recognition highlights Mr Amofah’s journey from a personal passion for watch repair to building a Ghanaian luxury watch brand with international ambitions.

The award recognises Mr Amofah’s work in advancing African craftsmanship through watchmaking and his efforts to establish Ghana as a contributor to the global luxury watch industry.

Held from 7 to 9 October 2026, the HAPAwards brought together personalities from Africa and the diaspora to celebrate achievements across entertainment, fashion, business, and the creative industries.

A Personal Journey Behind the Brand

For Mr Amofah, the recognition represents more than a professional achievement. It reflects a personal journey shaped by family, curiosity, and a determination to pursue a craft that was once difficult to access locally.

His interest in watches began in childhood, when his mother gave him a watch every Christmas. Following his father’s death in 2017, Mr Amofah inherited his father’s watches but struggled to find the expertise needed to restore them properly.

The desire to repair his late father’s broken watch ultimately led him towards horology and, eventually, the ambition to craft luxury watches in Ghana.

What began as a personal pursuit developed into Warrior King Watches, a brand that draws on Ghanaian heritage and contemporary design to tell African stories through its timepieces.

In dedicating the award, Mr Amofah acknowledged the people whose influence and support have been instrumental in his journey, including his late father, whose watch inspired his path into horology, and his mother, whose childhood gifts nurtured his love for timepieces.

Acknowledging the Asantehene’s Support

Mr Amofah also dedicated the honour to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, recognising His Majesty as a significant pillar of support for Warrior King Watches.

The relationship between the Asantehene and the brand extends beyond the award ceremony. Mr Amofah has previously presented His Majesty with bespoke solid-gold timepieces incorporating elements inspired by Asante heritage. His Majesty has also acknowledged the brand’s craftsmanship and encouraged support for indigenous businesses.

For Mr Amofah, this support has been an important source of encouragement in his ambition to build a Ghanaian luxury watch brand and contribute to the development of African watchmaking.

The recognition also underscores the importance of creating an environment in which Ghanaian craftsmanship and indigenous businesses can continue to grow and reach wider audiences.

Advancing Ghanaian Watchmaking

Under Mr Amofah’s leadership, Warrior King Watches has developed an identity centred on craftsmanship, horological innovation, and African heritage. Its collections draw inspiration from Ghana’s history and cultural identity, with the broader ambition of contributing to the development of African watchmaking.

The Innovative Excellence Award marks a significant moment in Mr Amofah’s journey and the continued development of Warrior King Watches. It reflects his commitment to building a Ghanaian luxury watch brand capable of contributing meaningfully to the international watchmaking industry.

For Mr Amofah, the honour is both a moment of gratitude and a renewed commitment to the work ahead: advancing Ghanaian watchmaking and demonstrating the possibilities of African craftsmanship on the global stage.
