Accra Metropolitan University Confers Honorary Doctorate on IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws (L.L.D) Honoris Causa by Accra Metropolitan University in recognition of his outstanding leadership, unwavering dedication to public service, and commitment to modernizing policing in Ghana.

The honorary degree was conferred during the university’s 2025 graduation ceremony an event marked by pride, reflection, and celebration. The ceremony, held at the university’s main campus in Accra, drew dignitaries from across Ghana, including government officials, academic leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the Ghana Police Service.

Clad in ceremonial regalia, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was visibly moved as he received the university’s highest honour. In an emotional acceptance speech, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university’s leadership and applauded its commitment to education and national development.

“This recognition is not just for me, but for every man and woman in uniform who puts their life on the line daily to serve and protect. I accept this honour on behalf of the Ghana Police Service,” he said.
The IGP used the occasion to deliver a stirring message to both police personnel and graduates. He urged members of the service to carry out their duties with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve.

He also encouraged graduates to embrace leadership and innovation in their respective fields and to become agents of positive change in society.

Founded in 2014 as Laweh University College, Accra Metropolitan University became Ghana’s first fully accredited Open University, pioneering flexible and inclusive education across the country. In December 2024, it was granted a presidential charter, gaining full autonomy and establishing a Governing Council to chart its long-term vision and growth.

University officials praised IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno for his transformational leadership within the Ghana Police Service, noting that his values mirror the university’s mission.

Bright Mumuni Aziz Champions Adolescent Health and Youth Development at National Stakeholder Engagement

Education Advocate and Entrepreneur Bright Mumuni Aziz, Director of Research, Monitoring & Evaluation at the Federation of African Youth Development (FOAYD), has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing adolescent health and youth development through evidence-based advocacy and strategic stakeholder engagement.

As part of the Federation’s ongoing efforts to influence youth-centered policies, Bright Mumuni Aziz led a delegation from the Federation of African Youth Development (FOAYD) to participate in a high-level stakeholder engagement on the Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) Programme, jointly organized by the National Youth Authority (NYA) and UNICEF Ghana. The FAYD delegation included Ms. Caroline, General Secretary, and Ms. Rosemond Boayerik, a member of the Federation. The engagement, held at Sunlodge Hotel in Accra, brought together representatives from government institutions, development partners, and youth-focused organizations to discuss practical strategies for improving the health, rights, and well-being of adolescents in Ghana.

Representing the Federation of African Youth Development, Bright Mumuni Aziz played an active role in the discussions and delivered a presentation based on the UNICEF Ghana framework on adolescent health. His presentation emphasized the importance of evidence-driven interventions, multi-sector collaboration, and policies that respond to the evolving needs of young people.

The stakeholder engagement served as an important platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening partnerships, and contributing to the development of sustainable interventions aimed at creating safer and healthier environments for adolescents across the country.

Speaking during the engagement, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Alhaji Inusah Mahama, underscored that youth development extends beyond education, employment, and entrepreneurship. He called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to promote gender equality, protect adolescent rights, strengthen institutional systems, and deliver lasting impact for young people throughout Ghana.

Bright Mumuni Aziz’s participation and leadership of the FOAYD delegation reflect his growing influence in youth development, research, and policy engagement. Through his leadership at the Federation of African Youth Development, he continues to champion initiatives that bridge research and practice, ensuring that policies affecting young people are informed by credible evidence and meaningful stakeholder collaboration.

His contribution to the ASRH stakeholder engagement demonstrates the critical role of research professionals in shaping national conversations on adolescent health.
