Adisco And Holico Top Maiden Festival Of Relay Races At Cape Coast Stadium

Adisadel College and Holy Child Senior High Schools were the tops in the maiden Festival of Relay Races held at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 by the Dreamland Sports Plus in collaboration with the Central Regional Sports Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The event attracted 17 schools including Aggrey Memorial, University Practise, Assin North, Sammy Otoo, Edinaman, Abakrampa, Nyankomasi and Mfanstiman.

The programme also involved basic schools category which was won by Cape Coast Metro and Upper Dankyira. Other participants came from Awutu Senya, Gomoa East, Twifo Hemang and Gomoa Central districts.

Seven events were competed in; 4 x100m, 4 x 200m, 4 x 400m, 4 x 800m, 1,000m mixed relay, 2,400 mixed medlay and the new 2 x 2 x 400m relay.

Adisadel College who dominated the track in the absence of St. Augustine’s, Mfanstipim, Apam, Ghana National, Winnba, Boa Amponsem and other won the boys SHS category with 27 points, followed by Aggrey Memorial at second, Edinaman at third and  Nyankumasi at 4th position.

Holy Child placed first with 25 points to take home the trophy and products at stake in the Girls SHS division, and were followed closely by Edinaman with 23 points. UPSHS were third with 14 points, as MGSHS and Aggrey Memorial manage the fourth and fifth places respectively.

Mrs. Martha Owusu Agyeman, regional director of education in the Central Region who presented prizes to the winners commended the student athletes, and adviced them to be serious with sports as their talent can make them become future national and international sportsmen and women.

Mr. Joseph Connel, headmaster of St. Augustine’s College, who is also the regional chairman of second cycle schools congratulated the winners and urged corporate Ghana to support such initiatives which help the youth in their development.

Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams, CEO of Dreamland Sports Plus as well as youth coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) thanked the PE coordinators and masters who supported the students to make the program successful.

He also thanked Parle Biscuits, Bebe, Dolait Yoghurt, Ice Joy Ice Cream, Hurray Crackers and royal drinks producers of Awake purified mineral water.

Olla Williams presented medals to the 12 senior PE masters in the Central Region for their contribution to the development and promotion of sports in the region.

He later wept, while appealing for more sponsorship to support as some schools could not turn up due to financial difficulties; however the event, Festival of Relay Races was fruitful, positive and well organised.
